Sally’s Gut is the narrow waterway that separates Stonedam Island from the mainland. While there are many tales about the name, ranging from Indian raids to childhood dares, nobody really knows who Sally was. What is know is that Stonedam Island was the only Indian-owned island in the 18th century, the Gut was spanned by a stone causeway in the 19th century, and the entire island is now held by the Lakes Region Conservation Trust. Our Sally knows what she wants in her gut: dark chocolate, dried wild Maine blueberries, toasted pine nuts and just a hint of lemon.
